Hey, Las Vegas brides! Have you noticed that most wedding apparel seems strangely similar? I’m sure you know what I mean. Brides almost always wear a white dress, white high heels, jewelry with diamonds, rhinestones, or pearls, and a hairdo to mimic Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Whatever happened to the “something new” part of ye ole’ wedding mantra?

Well, there’s nothing wrong with classic wedding attire. By incorporating the traditional aspects, you can bring a sense of timelessness to your Las Vegas wedding. Plus, let’s face it, ladies—you’ll feel like a princess, which makes for an exhilarating experience on your wedding day.

But for those of you who are looking to show a little personality on your person, don’t be shy. This season, embrace your desire to be different.

I loved rockin’ red shoes.

At my June wedding, I tried this for myself. Since my wedding had an exceptionally elegant vibe, I wanted to stay within the lines of classic romantic with my overall appearance. (And, yes, I did want my hairstyle to mimic Audrey Hepburn. Lol.) But I wanted to make a subtle statement too. I chose to show some personality through my wedding shoes. Instead of classic strappy sandals from bridal boutiques, I chose to wear ruby red peep-toe pumps.

While I initially had to endure feigned heart attacks from traditionalists, my family supported my decision on my wedding day. All evening, I loved the feeling of fiery energy that my shoes added beneath my full gown. Plus, I enjoyed watching smiles on my guests’ faces when they caught a sneak peek of my red hot shoes beneath my gown’s hem. On full display during the garter removal, I received comments from the most unlikely people of how fun it must be to wear shoes in a bold color.

Brides, believe it. From subtle hints to shout-outs, your shoes can perk up your appearance and give you a sense of utter confidence in your bridal beauty. To let your personality shine without clashing with the mood or décor of your wedding, try one or more of these wedding trends on your wedding day.

SHOES

  • Use a pop of color, from bright blue pumps to snakeskin spike heels.
  • Buy heels or flats with bows or brooches.
  • Try flats, be it rhinestone flip flops or gladiator sandals. Flats are exceptionally useful for any brides who worry about being taller than their grooms, or for brides who hope to spend the night comfortably on the dance floor.

JEWELRY

  • Try a bracelet band or wrist cuff. Just watch that any metallic cuffs aren’t too reflective or your wrist will look like it’s gone nuclear in your wedding photos.
  • Wear dramatic dangles or modern, drop earrings.
  • Experiment with a right-hand ring, hosting a large, colorful stone.

HAIR

Try a short gown, or add details around the neck or with straps.
  • If you have long locks, let your soft curls flow freely.
  • With short, cropped hair, you automatically add an edge to any bridal ensemble. (If you’ve never tried this look before, wait to cut your hair until after the wedding to avoid any complications.)
  • Add a flower, preferably a fresh flower similar to your wedding’s floral décor.
  • Add a jeweled barrette for some shine.

GOWN

  • Go short! If you’ve got sleek legs, try a dress that hits an inch above the knee.
  • Add a colored sash, which many bridal stores can provide for particular gowns.
  • Add detailing to the dress, be it jewels, lace, flowers, bows, pick-ups, or an overlay.
  • Modify any strapless gown to feature cap sleeves or a halter strap.

Now, Las Vegas brides, go rock the aisle like a runway!
