Las Vegas brides, while you’ve probably heard about Kim Kardashian’s three wedding dress appearances during her August wedding to NBA player Kris Humphries, did you know that her dress designs will soon be sold at David’s Bridal? In a recent interview with E! Online, renowned bridal gown designer Vera Wang discussed her decision to release wedding dresses inspired by Kardashian’s gowns to brides nationwide. To do so, Wang has chosen to make these gowns available through business partner, David’s Bridal.
As Wang explained, her working relationship as a designer for David’s Bridal has been “the perfect marriage.” No doubt their partnership for not one, but two, Kardashian-inspired gowns will only allow them to grow further.
The first gown that David’s Bridal plans to release hearkens to the Vera Wang-designed wedding dress that Kim Kardashian wore for her ceremony. Likened to a princess, Kardashian received praise for the gown’s more traditional appearance and complementary veil.
“There’s a certain classicism to the first,” Wang said of Kardashian’s ceremony dress. “It [is] about … that ’50s, kind of Elizabeth Taylor beauty, and that voluptuousness and that wonderful wasp waist and the big full skirt. I mean, that was what we were after, and the simplicity of it in a way. And the lace work… so there was a certain gossamer look. … So it was very frothy, and I think very romantic.”
As for the David’s Bridal design, it will maintain the same qualities of the couture gown while also being a ready-to-wear look for David’s brides.
“I think for David’s,” Wang said, “you know while it [Kardashian’s gown] is a custom-made dress that ten women worked on for like three months, it will certainly capture that sense of old-fashioned romance.”
It may not be true couture, but the David’s design will certainly display that spirit in all of its intricacies.
The second Kardashian release for David’s Bridal is inspired by the second dress Kardashian revealed on her wedding night. Created for her first dance with her groom, this gown displayed her sensuality in a full-length mermaid silhouette with a dramatic ruffled train.
“The other dress is the mermaid dress … and that is very much of a more evening-oriented wedding gown,” Wang said of Kardashian’s first reception gown. “It’s perhaps a bit sexier, a bit more tango or cha cha or dance-oriented. … A version of that dress will be on the David’s Bridal line.”
According to Wang, brides can expect these two bridal gown styles to appear in select stores nationwide in February 2012. And as Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world, let’s hope to see them soon.
