Take it away, Megan!

When asked to give our expert advice for the top 10 tips for creating the perfect bridal look, we jumped at the opportunity and then said- wait- only 10? For both hair and makeup? Below I’ve listed what we feel is most important for both hair and makeup and how we prep our clients to prepare for their special day.

1. Think of How You Wear Your Hair on a Daily Basis

First and foremost, and I cannot emphasize this enough, think “It’s me only me on my most beautiful day.” Whether we are speaking of hair or makeup, let’s face it — we want to look like ourselves and, of course, not scare the guy at the other end of the aisle. When choosing a hair style and can’t decide on all up or all down, 1/2 up and 1/2 down is a great compromise. But, think about how you wear your hair every day, as this will affect your makeup as well. If you always wear your hair down, then choose to wear it up; you may not be comfortable with seeing your ears and your profile with an updo on the wedding day.

2. Consider the Weather

Don’t fight the weather. Las Vegas is a valley and is subject to windy and downright gusty days more oftentimes that not. If your thought is to have an intricate updo, you may want to rethink that and let your hair go with the flow of Mother Nature when the winds are gusting at 25 MPH.

3. Find Inspiration Photos

Inspiration photos are key for both hair and makeup. Narrow down your selections to no more than 3 for hair and 3 for makeup. It’s true that a photo speaks a thousand words. It helps your translate to your artist and stylist what you want and sometimes, more importantly, what you don’t want. Save those in a special folder on your phone or tablet so you don’t get frustrated scrolling trying to find that perfect photo. Keep in mind that you should be looking for photos that are most similar to your hair texture and length as well as skin color and face shape.

4. Accessories

Carefully choose accessories for your hair, not just buy them as an afterthought… I’ve seen brides come to us with 9 different options. What that tells us, is you have not given it much thought and just want to throw something in your hair just because. It’s ok not to have something in your hair. While you’re at it, why look like everybody else? Personalize those accessories by using your grandmother’s pin or another heirloom as a hairpiece.

5. Brows, Brows, Brows

Start shaping your brows now vs. later — you WILL thank us. Let’s face it, eyebrows are VERY personal. As the frame of your face, eyebrows are the key to the entire look coming together. Having well-groomed brows will help open your eye, raise the appearance of your cheekbones and set the stage for great makeup.

6. Sunscreen

Refrain from using sunscreen on your wedding day. YES, I know, but here’s the reason why: Most single-use sunscreens (those not found in your foundation and moisturizer) are the real deal and contain ingredients that do protect you from the sun, but they also don’t play nice with camera flash and can leave you looking shiny or oily in your photos aftermarket.

7. Tan or not to Tan?

To tan or not to tan is the question? While I do not condone the use of tanning beds EVER, I will suggest a custom blend sunless airbrush tan. It’s true that tan skin looks healthier and it does, in fact, give the appearance of being 10 pounds lighter. But more than anything, a tan helps you not look washed out in a white dress. No matter what the color name of the dress is — it’s still white. This service should be performed 24-48 hours prior to the wedding.

8. Lashes are a Must!

False lashes are an absolute must. Not just to say you don’t them, but they are purposeful in the end result look of your photos. We tend to squint outdoor in the sun, lashes help open the eyes for those photos. Same goes for indoors and ballroom lighting — lashes open the eyes and make them appear to be larger in photos.

9. Lip Color

Ask your artist ahead of time if they will give you the lip color they use on you. If not buy your own and bring with you. As part of our all-inclusive services, we give the full-size lip product so that each client can eat, drink and be merry throughout the day and touch up as needed. Of course, it’s also a little keepsake from the day.

10. Be Clear About What You Want

Last but not least, be clear with your artist and stylist. They are there to help you create the look you want. Not fight your vision. But, they are not mind readers and can only take the direction you give them. It’s ok to tell them what you want and more importantly what you don’t want — again, they WANT to please you.
