Music Trends For Today’s Weddings

Manager for Knight Sounds, Jennifer Spangler said when couples think of ceremony music, their thoughts typically jump to Pachelbel’s “Cannon in D” or Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March,” but about half of their couples are steering away from the expected and embracing current music styles. She said their most requested processional song is currently “A thousand Years” by Christina Perri and for the recessional, “All You Need is Love” by The Beatles. The music selected for the ceremony can really help define your theme and show your personality, so Jennifer said couples should really spend time customizing their song choices.

Jennifer also shared with us that traditions such as the bouquet and garter toss are definitely slowing down, but reinventing these traditions are a great way to pay homage to the past. For example, she said you could invite all the ladies and then gentleman out on the dance floor and toss the bouquet followed by the garter for good luck. This gets everyone involved and still allows you to include a traditional element in your wedding.

Planning Tips for the Couple-to-Be

Jennifer said their DJs work closely with the other vendors to ensure everything runs smoothly — and since the DJs are also the MC for the entire wedding, working with the other vendors and understanding the event timeline is extremely important.

She also said that couples need to make sure the DJ you select has experience with making proper announcements and is knowledgeable on how to best use the event time. Also be sure to hire the same company/DJ for the entire event (ceremony cocktail/social hour and reception) to help keep everything cohesive and running on time. With so many different phases, locations and distractions each wedding can have, it’s essential to hire a DJ who has experience directing your guests through each phase of the event with professional announcements and fun music to mark each transition.

Jennifer also said it’s best that couples make wedding planning decisions that work for you and your budget. Lastly, she said these three things always make for a great event: great entertainment, great food and an open bar! Include these elements in your own wedding and you will truly have a fantastic celebration to be remembered!
