Bridal Spectacular Q&A with Sam’s Town Hotel

Bridal Spectacular: Where should a couple begin when they are determining their wedding budget?

Bridgit: I think a great place to start is to look at your guest list and your vision for the wedding. Will you have an intimate affair or a large reception and invite your entire family? How many guests are you expecting and what type of reception are you envisioning? Depending on what your dream wedding entails that will determine your guest list and location of your wedding.

Bridal Spectacular: Are there any times of year and/or days of the week that are more cost effective for a couple to have their wedding?

Bridgit: At our location, the wedding and reception run the same every day of the week. And, of course, for airfare and hotel for your guests, summer is always the least expensive time of the year to have your wedding. Also, if you are interested in an afternoon wedding, luncheons are usually less expensive.

Bridal Spectacular: What are your top tips to help a couple cut costs overall?

Bridgit: To be budget conscious, you want to find a location that suits your budget and decide what will really make your day special to you and what is most important. Look at your other options, centerpieces, bouquets, cake knife set, toasting glasses, etc., to determine what is the most important to you. Many of my brides are crafty and use DIY centerpieces and bouquets. I have seen some really creative pieces.

Bridal Spectacular: On the contrary, are there any items you recommend a couple splurges on?

Bridgit: I think your photos and videos are one of the most important aspects of a wedding. The day goes by so fast for the bride and groom, and sometimes it can be a whirlwind. Also, asking your guests to take photos and having them send those to you as well is always great — you get some great selfies and candids of your guests. If you can do a photo booth, that is also a nice addition since you get all the guests’ great photos and it gives your guests a great party favor to walk away with.

Bridal Spectacular: Oftentimes, we hear couples say they weren’t aware of taxes, fees and gratuities until after they sign a contract. How to help ensure the couple knows about all of the final costs before committing?

Bridgit: Ask lots of questions, no question is a wrong question. What is included at no charge? Ask about all setup items, such as tables, chairs, tablecloths, chair covers, dance floors, extra tables, place settings, glassware, etc. Ask anything and everything you can think of. Ask about vendors, who you can bring, who you can’t bring in? Also, are there any fees to bring in outside vendors or items? Corkage fees? Service fees? Cake cutting fees? Labor fees?

Bridal Spectacular: When it comes to the menu and drinks, what do you recommend to couples to keep the budget at bay?

Bridgit: Look at the menus and what time your wedding is — this will help you determine what menu will suit your needs. Drinks can be tricky, you really need to look at your guest list and determine what will work best for your group and your budget.

Bridal Spectacular: Anything else you would like to add or share?

Bridgit: We do our best to accommodate whatever budget brides and grooms are working with. We offer many options for menus as well as many bar options to give them the choice to have the event that they have dreamed of. We also allow outside vendors, which brides and grooms find very helpful as they can then find the vendor that works within their budget and gives them what they are looking for.
