On my recent trip to the south, my son and I had the pleasure of seeing one of the most comprehensive collections of Vintage wedding gowns. The Charleston Museum in Charleston, SC presents an original exhibition.

Wedding Dresses were not always White
Wedding Dresses were not always White

While focusing on the bride and her dress, the exhibition also includes accessories, men’s garments, trousseau treasures and photographs. The exhibit was amazing, it explored wedding traditions, from orange blossoms and blue garters to the magnificent white bridal gown. The dresses in the museum date from the early 19th century to the mid – 20th century. From the 1800’s to the 1960’s. Most of the dresses were worn by women of South Carolina Lowcountry and all reflect the changing fashions of the different decades. If you are anywhere near the Charleston area, this is a must see for anyone who loves fashion and especially bridal fashion. The Charleston Museum is located at 360 Meeting St in Charleston, SC. This exhibit will only be available until June 20, 2010 and then it will go back into storage, never to be seen again for many years. While visiting South Carolina, we were also able to add a few more dresses to our vintage wedding gown collection which will be shown at the next  Bridal Spectacular right here in Las Vegas. Our collection dates from the 1920’s to 1980’s.
