Bridal Spectacular: When a bride is looking for a hair and makeup stylist for her wedding, where do you recommend she starts her search and what questions should she ask the stylist to ensure she is getting a great, professional vendor?

Melinda: For a bride who is just starting her planning, the first place to look for a great hair and makeup artist is through her friends and family that may have recently (in the last 3-5 years) been married. If this isn’t an option, her venue’s preferred venue list is a great place to start, as well as at bridal shows and online services listing with reviews. Once she has found three or four she likes, the following questions will make sure the company is a great professional service:

  1. How many stylists are on your team?
  2. Are you available on my wedding date?
  3. This is an image of what I have in mind, is this possible with my hair type?
  4. Do you have a full list of service available for the wedding party and myself?

Bridal Spectacular: Before the wedding, what do you recommend a bride does in order to ensure she is ready for her big day (The Do’s)?

Melinda:

  1. A trial for hair and makeup to make sure what you have in mind is possible and you still like it on you.
  2. Fresh hair color a week prior to wedding is a must.
  3. Facials if needed up until a week prior to the wedding.
  4. Waxing and hair removal is essential for a great make up application.
  5. Leave hair a day dirty to hold the style longer.
  6. Get a good night sleep the week of the wedding.
  7. Relax and enjoy!

Bridal Spectacular: And what do you recommend she does not do before the wedding (The Don’ts)?

Melinda:

  1. Don’t wait until last minute to book. Book hair and makeup two to six months ahead of time.
  2. Don’t rely on a family or friend to do your hair or makeup…if you don’t like it you are less likely to say something to fix it.
  3. Don’t leave your bridesmaids’ hair to the last minute — decide early on if you want one consistent style or if they can all be different.
  4. Don’t try a new facial treatment, hair removal product, moisturizer, or makeup two weeks before the weddings to avoid breakouts and reactions.
  5. Don’t over stress; all will be as it should be!

Bridal Spectacular: How do you help a bride determine her perfect wedding look?

Melinda: The perfect wedding looking comes from the wedding theme, the cut of the dress, the shape of the face and body, and the personal preferences of the bride. We utilize pictures to truly create the best look. We have our bride bring in a picture of their dress front and back, hairstyles and makeup they like, as well as their makeup on an ordinary day that they liked so we can combine their everyday look with the style they envision. We strive to create the best version of yourself, as the wedding is a reflection of you and your partner

Bridal Spectacular: What are the latest trends you’ve been seeing in 2015 with hair and makeup? Also, are there any trends you don’t recommend?

Melinda: Wedding hairstyles in 2015 have gotten bigger and looser with more natural texture. This is a beautiful trend and looks great on many people. However, these kinds of styles require trials to confirm that the looser curls will withstand in your hair type and the more natural texture is in alignment with your wedding style. Natural beauty is always in style for weddings. Adding a pop of color on the lips has also been very popular and a great way to add a little drama to the look.

Bridal Spectacular: How about the bridal party — Is there anything you recommend for the bridesmaids?

Melinda: We always want the bride to be the star of the show. Many times we suggest the bridal party all style their hair opposite of the bride. So if the bride is wearing her hair down, the party may look best with their hair up. However, this is a personal choice for the bride that may also be influenced by the venue of the wedding, time of year, and style of dress.

Bridal Spectacular: When it comes to planning, how much time should the bride allot on her wedding day to get her hair and makeup done?

Melinda: The bride should allot at least two hours for her hair and makeup to be completed. This gives her time to make adjustments if needed and not feel rushed. If the entire party is getting their hair and makeup done, three to four hours should be allotted to ensure the party is picture perfect as well.

Bridal Spectacular: Anything else you would like to add or share to help brides achieve the perfect look for the wedding day?

Melinda: The most important thing to being the most beautiful bride is to smile. Having a great smile from you at the end of the aisle will remind your partner how luck they are!

Bridal Spectacular: Thank you for all of this fantastic information, Melinda! For our readers, please stay tuned for our last beauty blog where we share tips from Amelia C & Co.
